A Guy's Wish (For a Stripper named Hope)
I am the king here/ This wasteland of my dreams/ This rumble of my sleep/ These destroyed buildings of my mind/ I am the only one left here/ among the dead looking people/ defeated and staring ahead/ swirling in the red hue light/ among the women with a fine/ sculpted ass/ that I want to paint her portrait/ so I can show the world/ that there is still beauty left/ here on Earth/ so that the world would have beauty/ as well as hope...
I am the pauper here/ with an empty wallet/ because I've mistaken/ the dollars/ for a showing of love/ adoration/ and attention/ and she knows better than that/ more than I do/ and this heart of hers/ cannot be bought/ like the dollar signs on her high heels/ gracing the bar/ and I am the one with an empty heart/ because I sit here/ thinking that I forgot all about love/ all about hope/ all about the good things that makes life/ truly great/ truly remarkable/ and Hope is giving me hope/ in this darkness/ where I seek a light like hers...
I watch in silent/ of this scene/ laid out before me/ and I'm as lost as before I came/ and I'm losing my inspiration/ my fears realized/ until she fired them up/ by flashing a smile/ said her name was Hope/ and I got smitten/ knowing this/ that nothing is going to happen/ because I'm just like any other guy here/ and a woman like her don't deserve guys like me/ she deserves guys better than me...
I watch my money go/ as sure as she can flow/ and I watch her/ and I watch her/ she's in form/ and I watch myself fall from grace/ undeserving of Cloud Nine/ because this is my favorite sin/ and I pay for it well...
I speak about love/ I write about it everyday/ never knowing about true love/ just another guy/ walking the streets alone/ just to end up sitting here in the dark/ devoid of hope/ and knowing that love come and goes/ so I indulge in my favorite sin/ and I do it well/ as sure as I pass the buck/ going for broke...
Then I become nothing/ but bound to be something someday/ whispering hope to the world/ whispering hope for Hope/ hope for me/ hope for all seasons/ failure and success/ because there's nothing better to hope for/ except hope/ and I want to paint her/ for the world to see/ to give them some sort of hope/ that they so richly needed/ and deserved...
Empty place/ the phone is silent/ it's quiet here/ but I got Hope is on my mind/ a beautiful woman/ a beautiful human being/ who deserves hope/ more than any of us/ simply because she makes lonely guys dream/ of better things to come...

dwim, I thought this and "Bullet" were fantastic! I really like the cadence somehow, they both progress very well and I like the way they sound.
I don't know if you were looking for any input, but there's my 2 cents for ya.
I'd love to read more.

I like it. What La Unita said about the cadence. Nice.

well, i always appreciate comments la unita.
i haven't been writing very many poems lately, (you might call it distraction recently what with a job and all...) and out of the few i've written, i've considered this the best of my batch. "bullet," on the other hand, seems to rub me the wrong way and i was hoping for input as to how that could be better.
